Music from Tuning the Air, Volume 1
"Running The Set" - June 23, 2007
Unknown location, but likely the Seattle Circle home base at Trinity United Methodist Church, where Tuning the Air performances took place for the first 2½ years.
This was a very easy-going performance, recorded live in the room to microphones, engineered and produced by Andy Boyd, who recorded all of the shows from 2006-2008. We sat in the Circle, just as we would in performance. There is one person in the room with us, possibly a radio host who was considering putting a show on the air. It is all very low pressure. Some studio discussion is audible. The space is wonderfully resonant. Since there was no concern about the recording process intruding on the audience’s experience, the mics were set to optimally record the group, so the quality is quite good. Recorded on the weekend between shows #98 and #99, it reflects a team that had been performing together weekly for more than two years. It is tight, relaxed, and confident. The set we perform is exactly the set you would have heard at the Tuning the Air performance that week.
